SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (July 12) – The Springfield Thunderbirds, the proud American Hockey League affiliate of the St. Louis Blues, released their full schedule for the 2023-24 regular season on Wednesday in conjunction with the AHL. This marks the T-Birds' third playing season in their affiliation with the Blues.

For the fourth straight season, the Thunderbirds will begin their regular season on home ice when they play host to the Hartford Wolf Pack on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 7:05 p.m. inside the MassMutual Center for Opening Night. It marks the first of five contests on home ice against their I-91 rivals. Other matchups in Springfield between the two clubs will take place on Friday, Nov. 24; Wednesday, Dec. 27; Friday, Feb. 23; and Saturday, April 20. All of those games will feature a 7:05 p.m. puck drop.

The Thunderbirds will face every Eastern Conference team at least twice during the 2023-24 regular season, with the exception of the Cleveland Monsters. Once again, the AHL season will consist of all 32 clubs playing 72 total games (36 home, 36 away). 

Springfield will play a total of 58 games against Atlantic Division opponents, including 29 at the MassMutual Center. Their most frequent opponents are the Providence Bruins and Bridgeport Islanders, who will each visit the Thunderdome six times.

The season series against Providence begins with a 3:05 p.m. matinee on Sunday, Oct. 15. Other game dates include 7:05 p.m. contests on Saturday, Oct. 28; Saturday, Dec. 30; Saturday, Jan. 6 (Throwback Night); Saturday, Feb. 24; and another 3:05 p.m. matinee on Sunday, April 14. 

The Islanders make their first visit to Springfield on Wednesday, Nov. 22 at 7:05 p.m. before return trips on Saturday, Dec. 9 (Teddy Bear Toss); Saturday, Dec. 23; Friday, Dec. 29; Sunday, March 3 (3:05 p.m.); and Friday, March 8.

The defending Calder Cup champion Hershey Bears come to the MassMutual Center twice in the 2023-24 season for 7:05 p.m. starts on Friday, Dec. 22 and Saturday, Feb. 10 for Ice-O-Topes Night. 

The Thunderbirds will also play 14 games (7 home, 7 away) against teams from the AHL’s North Division, beginning with a visit from the Belleville Senators on Friday, Nov. 3 at 7:05 p.m. at the MassMutual Center. Springfield will host the Toronto Marlies at the Thunderdome for the first time since the 2021-22 season when the Marlies come to town for Pink in the Rink on Saturday, March 9 at 7:05 p.m.
